Happy Sunday, everyone! I don't know about you guys, but Sundays (and Fridays) may be my favorite day of the week. I get to recharge and prepare for a new week, and I get all of my adult-ing done. Sunday Brunch Ride at Cyclebar, grocery shopping, meal prepping, and laundry usually! Then I make sure to save some time for fun stuff like creating blog content! When I am productive on Sunday I know I'm set up for success in the upcoming week. Lately, in light of everything going on in our world, I've been trying to stay as informed as possible while also protecting my mental space. It's crucial to take care of ourselves and take breaks when we need them. I'm the worst at taking my own advice, but this is what I tell my friends all the time. I'm slowly learning to do the same. When I'm not crossing off chores on my weekly to-do list, I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, and watching popular TV shows and movies. I want to start a new segment on my blog called "Whit's Weekly Favorites" and share things I'm enjoying! Whether that be food, music, books, podcasts, and everything in-between! I love hearing what others are obsessed with, so this will be something light and fun for all of us. So today begins the first post of my new weekly segment! Whit's Weekly FavoritesI read this book during quarantine and joined Caila's Quinn's (contestant on Nick Viall's season of The Bachelor) book club on Instagram. This was the second book I finished in 2020 (I'm working on my poor reading habits), and I was crying happy and sad tears by the end of the story. Delia Owen's is a phenomenal writer, and truly uses her background in Zoology to the best of her ability. If you want a quick, easy read for the summer- this is your book! I am so surprised that this podcast was released in 2019, and I hadn't heard of it until this summer. This beautiful masterpiece did not get the hype it deserved in my opinion. The podcast has five episodes, and the topics range from the beginning of slavery, to Black influence on music, and the farming industry and lifestyle in the South. I listened to this entire series at work last year, and I am forever changed. The New York Times did not come to play when they produced this series. Nikole Hannah-Jones is an amazing host too. Oh. My. GOD. If you want to belly laugh until it hurts, THIS is the podcast you need to be listening to. I do not know how I haven't been listening to this podcast since it's beginning stages, but I am now a forever-fan. Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change have an undeniable chemistry, and they play so well off each other. People at work have asked me what I'm listening to that's making me laugh so hard LOL. The queens discuss a multitude of topics: current pop culture, Drag Race, being Black and Gay, as well as bringing on hilarious guests to chat. FYI- You have to listen to the episode with Miss Vanjie. I was CRYING. I'm about 4-5 episodes in, and I can't wait to catch up this week! What to say about this album? It reminds me of having all the windows open in my house, with the sun shining and the wind blowing, it's not too hot but not too cold, I'm probably baking some tasty treat, Adam and Roscoe are cuddling, and my house smells like coffee and some caramel chocolate-y deliciousness. It's that good. My favorite songs so far are "Slow Cooker," "Conversations in the Dark," "U Move, I Move," and "Never Break." I'm obsessed with John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. They've gotten so much of my money lmao. Well that's a wrap for my first round of Whit's Weekly Favorites! If you end up listening to or reading my recommendations please let me know! I think one of my love languages is giving gifts to others (if's that a thing), and telling them about all the things I love 😂 I hope it's sunny and warm where you are. Enjoy this beautiful Sunday!
