I've moved every single year since 2010. Seriously. Through different college apartments and houses at Miami University, from one street to another in Hyde Park, and THREE times since I moved to Columbus. I moved out of Cincinnati in 2018 to my first apartment when Adam, then we lived with his parents for four months after our lease was up, and then we moved into our first home this past January! It's so funny looking back and remembering we lived with his family for that brief time- it honestly went by so fast. I truly didn't think we'd find a house that quickly. Looking for houses is such a different experience than I thought it'd be by the way. You apparently don't have to give up your first unborn child or have a million dollars saved up to actually purchase a house. Save, obviously, but it's not as scary as I thought it would be. And our realtor was the sweetest woman ever. We randomly looked at a house that was wayyyyy beyond our budget just for fun, and she was hosting an open house. At first we were nervous to go in, but she contacted Adam a few days later. Then not even two months after that, she helped us find the house we live in now! Of course I had every room decorated in my head before we moved in, and my Pinterest home board was over-flooded with pin after pin. I like to think over the years my taste in decorations has matured (at almost 30 I'd hope that's the case), and I've tried to build more of a minimalist style. Which is so difficult to achieve because I have SO. MUCH. STUFF. Luckily I can store all of my clearance holiday decorations in our basement now, but still. I've purged a lot over the years. And I mean a LOT. The one room I definitely wanted to have was a closet room- AKA "Get Ready Room." I can remember all my girlfriends cramming into the same bathroom getting ready to go out in college, and while it was a blast blaring Rihanna's Unapologetic album whilst drinking $5 Kroger vodka and fruit punch in my trashy plastic margarita cup (imagine having taste), and finishing my makeup look WITHOUT lashes, I am soooo grateful to have a separate room to get ready in now as a full-fledged adult, and drinking water before I have a glass of a wine to "pre-game." If you've known me since high school, you can probably attest to my budgeting ways and know that I loathe paying full price for anything. I never buy anything without some sort of discount or coupon. Why would you ever pay full price? So when I began decorating my closet room, I knew I didn't want to fork out a bunch of money. Obviously you need extra space to have an entire room dedicated to your clothes/makeup/etc. If you're living in an apartment or share space with a significant other, you can still organize your belongings with these tips! Here's how you can create your dream closet room on a broke girl budget! These are a few of my favorite things ♥Some of my favorite places to shop for home decor are Target, TJ Maxx, Amazon, and Walmart has seriously upped their game over the last few years. Like I said, if you don't have your own room to do all of this in, you can still organize everything in a cute way. You can showcase your prettiest pieces on different types of displays, and it will give your space a nice boutique-y feel. I found this simple clothing rack at Target right before we moved into our house. I didn't go too crazy with putting clothes on it because again, I just wanted to showcase some of my favorite pieces. I'm also a huge fan of earrings. In college I worked at Charming Charlie, so I think the obsession started back then. For Christmas I made an Excel sheet for Adam with all my gift requests on it. Are you surprised? This adorable earring display was on my list, and I knew it would look perfect on my bookcase. The nail polish display is also another favorite of mine. Adam's parents got me a gel UV light for Christmas a few years ago, so I still do my own nails at home a lot. Obviously I've done my own nails during this quarantine, and I miss the nail salon so much!! In high school and college I was obsessed with wearing hair accessories, and last summer when headbands starting getting popular again I was so excited! So naturally, I've started purchasing headbands randomly again. I couldn't figure out how to store my headbands without using a box of oatmeal (hello Pinterest crafts), and so I scoured Amazon for headband displays. The organizer I purchased opens up at the top, so you can actually put scrunchies in there as well. Or as Adam calls them- "crunchies." Bless his heart. DIY VanityIf you've ever searched for an actual vanity set, you've probably realized they're slightly expensive. I'm all about a DIY project to help save me money. I put together my first DIY vanity back in 2017, and I was thoroughly impressed with myself! I got everything from Ikea, and probably spent only $60-$70 on the actual desk and chair itself. After I put the desk and chair together, I spray painted the legs of the chair gold to go with my aesthetic. The white cart is from Target, and is perfect for storing hair products, curling irons, etc. I still have it and use it to this day. Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a vanity, you can build one yourself for a fraction of the price! After we moved into our house, Adam scored this beautiful gold vanity for me on this auction website we've become obsessed with. Not sure if they have auction sites in other cities, but Columbus folks- this website is AMAZING. We've also purchased faux plants and bar stools for the house. We're keeping our eyes on a new grill and nightstands that we need desperately. This vanity was only about $80 and it was originally $200. The fur stool came with it and I love it so much! Once you have your vanity space set up, you can begin to add the fluff. I always love adding makeup organizers because it's easier to find what you're looking for. TJ Maxx is a good place to stock up on those beauty organizers. They're usually inexpensive too! Color Coordinate!I love, love, LOVE when things are organized by color. It's so aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and makes choosing your outfit that much easier. Of course my closet is color-coordinated. One day I will upgrade all of my regular degular coat hangers to fancy velvet ones, but for now this closet setup will have to do. You can add cute baskets to store hats, scarves and belts. My bins don't match currently, but one project at a time. I also need to build shelves on my wall space to store all of my shoes. If you thought I liked earrings or makeup, you have not seen the bins upon bins of shoes that I own. Macy's shoe selection is just so good sometimes. Over the years I've added pieces here and there to create the perfect closet room space for myself. The dresser I have is ancient, and most likely on its last limb. The poor thing has been used in five different apartments of mine, and I need to upgrade it severely. Once all of this quarantine craziness is over I want to venture out and find new wall art for my closet room too. But overall, it's fairly easy to add some oompf to your space to jazz everything up!
