How are you all doing? This pandemic has stirred up so many different emotions for me, and I have to admit it’s been difficult to cope sometimes. Am I worried too much? Not enough? Should I be dooms-day prepping right now? The influx of news reports and Facebook threads of people from high school arguing are TEW MUCH. The other day I saw someone on Twitter talking about using this downtime wisely to start your business (aka Roc Nation Brunch twitter lmao), or begin that hobby we’ve been putting off. Honestly, I’ve tried doing all sorts of things. I finally picked up a book for the first time this year, revamped my entire blog and posted for the first time since last October, I’ve called my grandma numerous times already, and I’ve picked up and put down my dog probably 305 times since WFH began. In reality, I am extremely blessed to have a job that allows me to WFH and still earn a paycheck. My heart is breaking for those families impacted by this hardship. With all of this craziness going on I have to stay busy and distract myself from the news. It's important to stay up-to-date with current news, but once I'm feeling overwhelmed that becomes detrimental to my well-being. Here are some ways I’m staying sane during Social Distancing 2k20! Crime Junkie- Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of this podcast. This podcast is perfect for anyone who loves True Crime and needs their fix every week. The hosts release a new episode every Monday, and Crime Junkie even has a few spin-off podcasts (CounterClock, Full Body Chills and Red Ball). Bonus! If you are a paying fan club member you receive bonus episodes, and early access to the weekly episodes. I pay $5 a month to support my gals and I’ll be able to shop from their merch store when they re-open. Yay me! Brit + Co Classes- This website is so bright and cheery! A perfect remedy for an anxious or stressful day. On this website you can find articles for beauty, food, home and everything in-between! On my Instagram story the other day, I posted about their online classes they are doing FOR FREE until 3/31/20. Their classes range from cookie decorating, learning how to paint with watercolor, and even building your Instagram brand. Use the code “selfcare” at checkout and the entire class is $0.00! Some of these classes are priced up to $60+ dollars, so this is a deal and half and a great way to utilize this free time we have. Nedra Tawwab’s Instagram- This pandemic is something none of us have experienced before. There are a lot of emotions and thoughts to process, and right now many people are unable to go to their therapy sessions. I’ve been following Nedra for quite some time now, and I’ve gotta say- she speaks directly to my soul. Her daily Instagram posts are so spot on, and can certainly give some clarity and reassurance to those of us who are struggling with isolation and distancing right now. You could use one of her posts to kickstart a journal entry! This one is my favorite: Pick up a book and put down the phone- I was an English Education major in college, so you’d think I’d read a book a week if I could. Not the case. I think when my depression and anxiety hit an all-time low I started to loathe hobbies I once loved. Obviously I’m in a much better place these days, so I’m coming back around to everything. I’m almost halfway through the first Harry Potter book! I think I’m going to watch the movie after I finish each book. That should keep me busy for a few months lol. If you’re out of books at home, a quick tip is to grab one on your grocery run! Check out your local library app as well for any online book rentals. I'm actually trying to read more this year, so you can follow me over at goodreads for some friendly accountability.
I hope everyone is in good health and spirits. This is such a strange time that we’re living in. If I’m staying occupied I find that my anxiety is less alarming. Let me know if you follow along with my Social Distancing To-Do List! I would love to hear from you, and hope my list of activities gives you some ideas.
